Get Involved!

  • The Urban Farm depends on volunteers to maintain the organization, the site, and the programs. People of all ages from Spryfield, surrounding communities, and the Halifax peninsula, have helped at the Urban Farm over the past twenty years. We welcome all volunteers. You can bring your knowledge and experience, make new friends, learn new skills.

When you become a member, you can check off any of the volunteer jobs you may wish to help us with, such as gardening, event set up and/or help, repairs to gardens, baking, preserves, etc…See Membership form for more information.

With your volunteer help we can:

    • Offer interesting programs for all ages

    • Sell plants and seeds in the Spring at our Plant Sale and Seedy Saturday, in July help us with our Strawberry Shortcake Social.

    • Celebrate in September with our Harvest Fair/School Farm Day.

    • Teach young families how to grow their own food

    • Help maintain the 1825 Heritage farm site

Email the Farm at urbanfarmspryfield@gmail.com to become a volunteer.

Groups wishing to volunteer should send a request via G mail. All volunteers who work with children must have a police check and a Child Abuse registry check.

The Farm Committee of the Urban Farm is responsible for managing the volunteer list.

  • Every year up to twelve families enroll in the program for a $15.00 membership. The plot is $15.00 - about 40 square feet of raised bed - and if needed a copy of our garden book at $10.00.

While you will have full access to your plot, you will also benefit with an instructed weekly lesson starting in June, to help you understand the joys, rewards and challenges of growing a garden.
