In 1997, Michele Raymond designed the center circle. It encompassed all our dreams for an Urban Farm in Spryfield. The paved road and apartment building of the present- but also vegetable gardens and a mud road leading to a barn surrounded by green fields and trees. Marjorie Willison designed the overall layout and colour scheme of the quilt, pieced and sewed the quilt blocks, a traditional 9-patch design called “Puss in the Corner” for the quilt top.
At a community meeting held on April 18, 1996 to establish an Urban Farm in Spryfield, Michele Raymond, Marjorie Willison and Patricia MacLean volunteered to be the founding members of the new organization.
In 1997, Michele designed the center circle. It encompassed all our dreams for an Urban Farm in Spryfield. The paved road and apartment building of the present but also vegetable gardens and a mud road leading to a barn surrounded by green fields and trees and a tiny cow. We had a plan for the future! Marjorie designed the overall layout and colour scheme of the quilt, pieced and sewed the quilt blocks, a traditional 9-patch design called “Puss in the Corner” for the quilt top.
We met with the ladies at the Seniors’ Drop In Centre at the Spryfield Mall for hand quilting sessions. When finished, our quilt became the highlight of all our presentations to the public and at all our farm programs and UFMSS events. It was featured on all our brochures, including membership and planting guides, our “Foods of Spry’s Field” cookbook and our garden book, “Come Grow With Us - A Family Guide to Growing Vegetables”. Our Four Season “Quilt” notecards sold over 1500 copies and are still used today as Thank You’s.
